{"id":508392,"date":"2023-09-18T15:55:04","date_gmt":"2023-09-18T13:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=508392"},"modified":"2023-09-18T15:55:04","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T13:55:04","slug":"twitter-adds-id-verification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/508392-twitter-adds-id-verification.html","title":{"rendered":"Twitter adds ID verification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>X (formerly Twitter) now lets paid users verify their accounts using a government-issued ID to prevent impersonation on the platform, The Verge <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/9\/15\/23874854\/x-twitter-verification-government-id-paid-account-benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The company may also ask you to present an ID &#8220;when needed&#8221; and is looking into bolstering protection against spam, malicious accounts, and non-age-appropriate content.<\/p>\n<p>The new authorisation feature comes through a partnership between X and Israel-based verification company AU10TIX.<\/p>\n<p>AU10TIX may store all verification information, such as ID photos and &#8220;extracted biometric data&#8221;, for up to 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>This may explain X&#8217;s privacy policy update at the end of August that said the company &#8220;may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Paid users who verify their identity using a government-issued ID will include a line that says &#8220;this account is ID verified&#8221; when someone clicks on their blue checkmark.<\/p>\n<p>These users will get prioritised support from X services and will soon be allowed greater flexibility to make account changes, such as profile photo, display name, and user handle.<\/p>\n<p>X may ask users to reverify their account with an ID in several scenarios:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the account&#8217;s name or intended purpose has changed<\/li>\n<li>If ownership of the account is transferred to another user<\/li>\n<li>If the account is inactive<\/li>\n<li>For undisclosed safety and security reasons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The company says ID verification is available in &#8220;numerous countries&#8221; but doesn&#8217;t specify which countries these are.
