{"id":508920,"date":"2023-09-22T13:28:55","date_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=508920"},"modified":"2023-09-22T13:31:35","modified_gmt":"2023-09-22T11:31:35","slug":"tiktok-testing-google-search-integration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/508920-tiktok-testing-google-search-integration.html","title":{"rendered":"TikTok testing Google Search integration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>App researcher Radu Oncescu has discovered that TikTok is testing a feature that incorporates Google Search into its in-app search results.<\/p>\n<p>Oncescu <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/oncescuradu\/status\/1704060015571611794?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted an image<\/a><\/strong> of the feature that shows a small box halfway down TikTok&#8217;s search results that prompts users to search for the same terms on Google Search.<\/p>\n<p>A TikTok spokesperson confirmed to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tiktok-google-test-new-search-partnership-2023-9?op=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Insider<\/a><\/strong> that the Google integration is one of several third-party integrations that the company is testing.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in September, The Verge <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/9\/13\/23871880\/tiktok-search-engine-wikipedia-snippets-googlehttps:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/9\/13\/23871880\/tiktok-search-engine-wikipedia-snippets-google\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a><\/strong> that TikTok is adding Wikipedia snippets to search results on the platform.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TikTokSearch?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TikTokSearch<\/a> now displaying external links to Google Search. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattNavarra?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@MattNavarra<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cAxNufLA3p\">pic.twitter.com\/cAxNufLA3p<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Radu Oncescu (@oncescuradu) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/oncescuradu\/status\/1704060015571611794?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 19, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Wikipedia snippets spotted on TikTok appeared within search results for The New York Times, Taylor Swift, and Thanksgiving, among others.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok&#8217;s integration with third-party platforms comes at an interesting time, with young users that would have previously used Google Search now favouring TikTok and Instagram to search the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We keep learning, over and over again, that new internet users don&#8217;t have the expectations and the mindset that we have become accustomed to,&#8221;
