them, the company has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/X\/status\/1711498886265659797?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>However, researchers have warned that the move could further increase the spread of misinformation on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s an argument about whether the move could help reduce harassment and trolling on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>However, blocking unverified users from replying to posts will make it more challenging for them to refute misinformation, which European Union regulators said continues to increase, according to a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/technology\/2023\/sep\/26\/eu-warns-elon-musk-that-twitter-x-must-comply-with-fake-news-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a><\/strong> from The Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>The move to let verified users block the non-verified from replying to posts comes almost a year after X (formerly Twitter) CEO Elon Musk launched paid verification through Twitter Blue (now X Premium).<\/p>\n<p>The plan wasn\u2019t available to those living in South Africa at launch, but the company <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/483501-twitter-blue-launches-in-south-africa.html\">expanded access<\/a><\/strong> to the country in March 2023.<\/p>\n<p>South African X Premium subscribers pay R145 per month if they sign up via the platform&#8217;s web app, or R200 monthly if they subscribe on an iOS or Android device.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to subscribers being able to limit post replies to verified users, they can also access <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/help.twitter.com\/en\/using-x\/x-premium#tbpricing-bycountry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Premium features<\/a><\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bookmark folders<\/li>\n<li>Custom app icons<\/li>\n<li>NFT profile pictures<\/li>\n<li>Themes<\/li>\n<li>Custom navigation<\/li>\n<li>The Spaces
