{"id":511340,"date":"2023-10-13T16:15:48","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T14:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=511340"},"modified":"2023-10-13T16:18:17","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T14:18:17","slug":"threads-adds-edit-button-for-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/internet\/511340-threads-adds-edit-button-for-free.html","title":{"rendered":"Threads adds edit button \u2014\u00a0for free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Meta Platforms has added the ability to edit published posts on its Twitter\/X rival Threads.<\/p>\n<p>The feature was one of two major additions Instagram head Adam Mosseri <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.net\/@mosseri\/post\/CyT079aP0FV?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a><\/strong> this week.<\/p>\n<p>It will allow Threads users on the web and mobile app to amend their posts for up to five minutes after publishing them.<\/p>\n<p>Mosseri did not mention how many times a post could be edited during this period.<\/p>\n<p>He also did not explain exactly how to use the edit button, but from a screenshot he posted with the announcement, it appears that a round edit button will hover over posts that can be edited.<\/p>\n<p>The symbol for the edit button looks like a pencil drawing a mirrored &#8220;e&#8221;, as shown in the screenshot below.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_511350\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-511350\" class=\"wp-image-511350\" src=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Threads-Edit-button.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Threads-Edit-button.jpg 1440w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Threads-Edit-button-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Threads-Edit-button-533x533.jpg 533w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Threads-Edit-button-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Threads-Edit-button-1200x1200.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-511350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot of Threads post with edit button<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition to the edit feature, Threads has added the ability to post voice threads, which will automatically transcribe users&#8217; recordings into text and post this alongside the audio.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the edit feature comes just about three months after Threads first rolled out.<\/p>\n<p>It took Twitter\/X 16 years to add an edit button, despite being one of the most requested features from the platform&#8217;s loyal users.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, many pointed out that Meta&#8217;s other products \u2014 like Facebook and Instagram \u2014 allowed editing of posts.<\/p>\n<p>When it finally did add the edit button in September 2022, it only made the feature available to paying Twitter Blue subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>Now dubbed X Premium, the subscription costs R144.99 in South Africa.
