{"id":513351,"date":"2023-11-01T10:40:10","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T08:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=513351"},"modified":"2023-11-01T10:44:46","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T08:44:46","slug":"youtube-blocks-video-playback-for-ad-blocker-users","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/it-services\/513351-youtube-blocks-video-playback-for-ad-blocker-users.html","title":{"rendered":"YouTube blocks video playback for ad blocker users"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>YouTube has been fighting the use of adblockers on its platform for some time; the company is now forcing users&#8217; hands by blocking videos unless their adblocker is disabled for YouTube.<\/p>\n<p>Those still using an adblocker will get a pop-up warning them to disable it, saying, &#8220;Video playback is blocked unless YouTube is allowlisted or the ad blocker is disabled&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The notification started appearing for users earlier this month, but it was just a warning, and users could close it and continue watching. However, it is now making users take action to continue viewing.<\/p>\n<p>It prompts users to either allow YouTube through their adblocker or sign up for the platform&#8217;s ad-free Premium subscription. One user <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PatrykAurelius\/status\/1719290376085803344?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared a screenshot<\/a><\/strong> of the prompt on Twitter (now X):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ad blockers violate YouTube\u2019s Terms of Service<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It looks like you may be using an ad blocker.
