{"id":513453,"date":"2023-11-02T07:49:28","date_gmt":"2023-11-02T05:49:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=513453"},"modified":"2023-11-02T07:51:49","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T05:51:49","slug":"boeing-struck-by-cyberattack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/motoring\/513453-boeing-struck-by-cyberattack.html","title":{"rendered":"Boeing struck by cyberattack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boeing Co. confirmed it is dealing with a \u201ccyber incident\u201d that targeted elements of the parts and distribution business run by its global services division.<\/p>\n<p>Flight safety isn\u2019t affected, Boeing said in an emailed statement Wednesday, adding, \u201cWe are actively investigating the incident and coordinating with law enforcement and regulatory authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A cyber gang with Russian ties, known as\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2023-05-16\/alleged-russian-hacker-charged-in-200-million-ransomware-spree\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lockbit<\/a>,<\/strong> claimed in a post on the dark web last week that it would start releasing \u201csensitive data\u201d if the aerospace and defence giant didn\u2019t meet a ransom demand by Nov. 2.<\/p>\n<p>But on Wednesday evening, there was no mention of Boeing on Lockbit\u2019s leak website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen organisations are removed from leak sites, it often means either that the organisation has paid the ransom or that it\u2019s agreed to negotiate,\u201d said Brett Callow, threat analyst at Emsisoft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe former is usually permanent, whereas the latter may only be temporary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Boeing spokeswoman declined to comment on whether the US planemaker paid any ransom.
