More work needs to be done to increase South Africa’s usage of information and communications technologies (ICTs), a meeting chaired by President Thabo Mbeki in Limpopo decided on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Mbeki chaired the 8th annual meeting of the Presidential International Advisory Council (PIAC) on Information Society and Development (ISAD) which began on Friday at Kapama Lodge in Hoedspruit.<\/p>\n
The meeting reviewed the PIAC’s work in the last eight years and expressed appreciation with the overall progress made in ICTs.<\/p>\n
"It was also noted that more work needs to be done to increase South Africa’s usage of ICTs."<\/p>\n
Mogeotladi Mogano was appointed as the co-ordinator of the PIAC and a chief executive officer of the e-skills’ council would be appointed within the next three months.<\/p>\n
"It was agreed that advisors will work with Trade and Invest South Africa to ensure that the country continues to improve investment in ICTs."<\/p>\n
Advisors will form a group which will advise government on energy saving, particularly in the ICT sector.<\/p>\n
"They (advisors) indicated their readiness to assist South Africa in maximising the economic benefits of the 2010 FIFA World Cup."<\/p>\n
