Meta Platforms has added the ability for Threads users to delete their accounts without having to nuke their linked Instagram profiles.<\/p>\n

The change is one of two new features Instagram boss Adam Mosseri highlighted in an update<\/strong><\/a> on Monday, 13 November 2023.<\/p>\n

To delete a Threads account separately from Instagram, users can navigate to their Threads Settings section, select “Account”, “Delete or Deactivate Profile”, and then hit “Delete profile”.<\/p>\n

Signing up for Threads will still require an Instagram account, as has been the case since its launch in July 2023.<\/p>\n

The screenshot below shows what the option will look like on the Threads iOS mobile app.<\/p>\n

The second change Mosseri announced was that Threads now allowed users to stop their posts on the platform from being featured on Facebook and Instagram.<\/p>\n

“We heard feedback that you want more control over the experience,” Mosseri said.<\/p>\n

The option to opt out of having your posts shown outside Threads is available under the “Privacy” section in Settings.<\/p>\n

Threads launched with bare-bones functionality, making the app far less capable than its main rival \u2014 Twitter\/X.<\/p>\n

However, it has gradually added features over the past few months \u2014 including an edit button<\/strong><\/a> and more advanced search features \u2014 aiming to make itself a more viable alternative to the often-controversial Elon Musk-owned platform.<\/p>\n

The company is also developing an API<\/strong><\/a> to allow developers to integrate Threads within other apps and platforms.<\/p>\n
