Teraco said.

“Organisations working to accelerate their digital transformation use Teraco to scale their IT infrastructure dynamically, adopt hybrid multi-cloud architectures, and interconnect with strategic business partners within the Platform Teraco ecosystem of global and local clients.”

The Teraco DB1 facility already supports 3,000 interconnects.

With its location on Durban’s north coast, DB1 is also a strategic interconnection hub on the African subsea cable map — with direct access to the Seacom, EASSy, and MÉTISS running along the east coast of Africa.

It will soon also interconnect with the 2Africa cable system, which is yet to land on that side of South Africa’s coast.

Direct link to Joburg hubs

Teraco said the DB1 facility offered clients secure colocation and interconnection services and the ability to leverage Teraco’s digital hubs in Johannesburg directly.

It connects to the Teraco campus in Isando, Johannesburg, through a wide choice of carriers on regional fibre routes, enabling clients to increase the number of partners they connect with and expand their reach into new markets.

“The DB1 facility provides enterprises with direct access to Platform Teraco, a rich ecosystem of over 250 network providers, global cloud on-ramps, subsea cable systems, access to over 100 managed service providers, and direct peering at NAPAfrica, Africa’s largest Internet exchange point,” Teraco said.

DB1’s expansion takes the total critical power load capacity at Teraco facilities to 186MW.

In addition to Durban, this figure includes the Isando Campus JB1/JB3/JB5 (70MW), Bredell Campus JB2/JB4 (64MW), and Cape Town Campus CT1/CT2 (50MW).

Now read: How much it costs to host a basic website in South Africa

The expansion has doubled the facility’s capacity to 2.2MW of critical power load and increased its footprint to 5,800 square metres.

[25
19476,64655,35258,22807,321,81638,317,16484,441,90767
post-515123","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cloud-hosting","tag-durban","tag-2africa","tag-cloud-services","tag-data-centres","tag-eassy","tag-metiss","tag-seacom","tag-servers","tag-teraco","tag-teraco-db1
