The Sunday Times Generation Next brand survey results were announced last week (Thursday, 31 May 2012), revealing that BlackBerry is the most popular brand among South Africa’s youth.<\/p>\n

The Generation Next brand survey, now in its eight year, reveals which brands the youth see as “cool”.<\/p>\n

This year’s survey, which polled over 5,500 urban and peri-urban youths across the county in February and March, lists local brands in 73 categories including coolest mobile brands, coolest telecoms brand and coolest computer brand.<\/p>\n

BlackBerry emerged as the coolest overall brand<\/strong>, followed by BMW and Coca-Cola. The top 10 brands are:<\/p>\n

  2. BMW<\/li>\n
  3. Coca Cola<\/li>\n
  4. Nike<\/li>\n
  5. Apple Mac<\/a><\/li>\n
  6. Mercedes Benz<\/li>\n
  7. KFC<\/li>\n
  8. McDonald’s<\/li>\n
  9. Guess<\/li>\n
  10. Nokia<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The 2011 Sunday Times Generation Next Survey’s “Coolest Overall Brands” were Blackberry, BMW, Coca-Cola, KFC and Mr Price respectively. In 2012 Mr Price dropped out of the top 10, while Nike and Apple moved into the top 5.<\/p>\n

    BlackBerry was voted as the coolest cell phone<\/strong> brand, followed by Nokia and Apple:<\/p>\n

    3. Apple iPhone<\/li>\n
    4. Samsung<\/a><\/li>\n
    5. Sony Ericsson<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      BlackBerry also reigned supreme in the coolest gadget<\/strong> category:<\/p>\n

      2. Laptop<\/li>\n
      3. Playstation 3<\/a><\/li>\n
      4. iPad (Tablet)<\/li>\n
      5. iPod<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Apple was rated as the top computer brand<\/strong>, followed by Samsung and Sony.<\/p>\n
