{"id":5183,"date":"2008-09-11T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-11T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-09-11T12:30:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-11T10:30:00","slug":"intel-pushes-solid-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/5183-intel-pushes-solid-state.html","title":{"rendered":"Intel pushes solid state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Intel yesterday upped the ante for solid state drives (SSD) with the release of two new 80GB SSDs for laptop and desktop computers (<a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/photos\/showphoto.php\/photo\/6152\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Intel SSD image here<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The X18-M and X25-M SSDs are initially available in 80GB capacities but Intel says a 160GB version is already in the pipeline. <\/p>\n<p>SSDs are becoming increasingly popular as they generally consume less power than traditional hard drives, improving the battery life of portable devices. <\/p>\n<p>The new X18-M is a 1.8-inch drive and the X25-M a 2,5-inch drive. <\/p>\n<p>The 80GB drive offers read speeds of up to 250MB per second and write speeds of up to 70MB per second. <\/p>\n<p>Intel is also expected to introduce a new line of SSDs for servers within the next three months.
