However, it is now rolling out to all WhatsApp users on Android and iOS.

To send an original-quality image on WhatsApp on an iOS device, users must tap the “+” symbol, select “Documents”, and then “Choose photo or video”.

Android users follow the same method. However, they tap on the paperclip “attach” symbol rather than the “+” icon.

The platform limits file sizes sent using the method to 2GB. MyBroadband tested the feature, and it appears to be available to iOS and Android WhatsApp users in South Africa.

The Meta Platforms-owned company was developing the feature for Android in August 2023, and it also appears to have rolled out to users in South Africa.

Previously, WhatsApp users could only send images through the “Photo & Video Library” option, which heavily compressed images to save data.

The platform introduced an “HD” option for images in August 2023. However, it had an upper limit for image quality and still compressed images to some extent.

The ability to send original-quality images on WhatsApp for iOS arrived in an update that brought several other features with it.

Users on iOS can now start group voice chats without ringing everyone in large groups and react to statuses using their avatars.

The update also brought new chat bubbles, making it easier for users to see missed, ongoing and completed calls.

Now read: Amazon Q AI “hallucinating” and leaking confidential data — Report

WhatsApp users can now send original-quality images and videos through the send documents options, provided they are smaller than 2GB.

[16
691,1125,2594
post-518521","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-software","tag-ios","tag-iphone","tag-whatsapp
