{"id":520893,"date":"2024-01-08T06:58:57","date_gmt":"2024-01-08T04:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=520893"},"modified":"2024-01-08T07:01:21","modified_gmt":"2024-01-08T05:01:21","slug":"cell-c-shareholder-opposes-licence-control-transfer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/520893-cell-c-shareholder-opposes-licence-control-transfer.html","title":{"rendered":"Cell C shareholder opposes licence control transfer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CellSAf, one of Cell C\u2019s oldest shareholders, has objected to the mobile operator\u2019s plan to transfer control of its licenses to Blue Label\u2019s The Prepaid Company.<\/p>\n<p>The objection followed <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/519017-cell-c-explains-why-it-must-transfer-control-of-its-crown-jewels-to-its-biggest-shareholder.html\"><strong>Cell C\u2019s plan to transfer control<\/strong><\/a> of its Electronic Communications and spectrum licences to Blue Label\u2019s The Prepaid Company.<\/p>\n<p>The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) published this application in a government gazette on Wednesday, 6 December 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The transfer of control application includes Cell C\u2019s individual electronic communications service (I-ECS) and network service (I-ECNS) licenses and its radio frequency spectrum licences.<\/p>\n<p>The radio frequency spectrum licences include its 2,100MHz, 900MHz, and 1,800MHz spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Nomonde Mabuya, director and company secretary of CellSAf, told MyBroadband they do not support Cell C\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Mabuya said they had not been consulted about the transfer of control and that the application had happened without their knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis licence transfer matter was never discussed with us. The first time we learned about it was when we saw the ICASA government gazette published on 6 December 2023,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>What is particularly concerning for CellSAf is that the matter has been kept from them despite engaging regularly with Blue Label Telecoms executive team members.<\/p>\n<p>Mabuya said they had submitted their objection to Cell C\u2019s planned licence control transfer to ICASA through their legal team on 29 December 2023.<\/p>\n<p>She said they are concerned that <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/519979-blue-label-is-hollowing-out-cell-c.html\"><strong>Blue Label is stripping other shareholders of Cell C\u2019s key strategic assets<\/strong><\/a>.
