OpenAI has launched an online store where people can share customised versions of the company\u2019s popular ChatGPT chatbot, after initially\u00a0delaying the rollout<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0because of\u00a0leadership upheaval\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n

The new store, which rolled out Wednesday\u00a0to paid ChatGPT users,\u00a0<\/strong>will corral the chatbots that users create for a variety of tasks, for example a version of ChatGPT that can teach math to a child or come up with\u00a0colourful cocktail recipes<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The product, called the GPT Store, will include chatbots that users have chosen to share publicly. It will eventually introduce ways for people to make money from their creations \u2014 much as they might through the app stores of Apple Inc. or Alphabet Inc.\u2019s Google.<\/p>\n

Similar to those app stores, OpenAI\u2019s\u00a0GPT Store<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will let users see\u00a0the most popular and trending chatbots on a leaderboard and search for them by category.<\/p>\n

In a blog post announcing the rollout, OpenAI said that people had made 3 million custom chatbots thus far, though it was not clear how many were available through its store at launch.<\/p>\n

The store\u2019s launch comes as OpenAI works to build out its ecosystem of services and find new sources of revenue.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, OpenAI also announced a new paid ChatGPT tier for companies with smaller teams that starts at $25 a month per user.<\/p>\n

OpenAI first launched a corporate version<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of ChatGPT with added features and privacy safeguards in August.<\/p>\n

People who pay for ChatGPT access \u2014 including enterprise customers and ChatGPT Plus subscribers \u2014\u00a0are eligible to use or make custom GPTs.<\/p>\n

Initially, users won\u2019t be able to profit off their chatbots, OpenAI said.<\/p>\n

But within the first three months of the year the company will share details on how people can make money from them.\u00a0The company said in its blog post that people in the US will be paid \u201cbased on user engagement\u201d with their chatbots.<\/p>\n

OpenAI originally said it planned to introduce the\u00a0store in late November, but\u00a0delayed the rollout<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to this year, citing\u00a0interruptions caused by the\u00a0ousting and reinstatement<\/a><\/strong> of chief executive officer Sam Altman in November.<\/p>\n

The startup will feature new GPTs each week.<\/p>\n

At the time of its launch, the chatbots it\u00a0highlighted included\u00a0one from the company Canva<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that helps people design logos, flyers and other media, and another that\u00a0recommends\u00a0recreational hiking trails<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
