DStv removed the CCTV-4 channel<\/a><\/strong> in March 2023 as part of its regular review of channel offerings. The broadcaster said it regularly reviews its channels to ensure it provides customers with the “best in local and international content”.<\/p>\n “Often, channels are removed from the platform due to low viewership and performance on some packages,” it said.<\/p>\n “In this instance, the parties have agreed to not renew based on commercial viability and viewership of the channels.”<\/p>\n A month later, DStv Compact customers got access to a new channel \u2014 ESPN 2<\/a><\/strong>. Previously, DStv customers had to subscribe to Compact Plus or Premium to watch this channel.<\/p>\n ESPN 2 is the home of basketball and American football in South Africa, with the channel airing National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL) content.<\/p>\n “This announcement is our way of rewarding our loyal customers with a wider catalogue of entertaining content to choose from,” said MultiChoice CEO Marc Jury.<\/p>\n This means that DStv Compact customers can watch the 2024 Super Bowl in February and the highly-anticipated NFL draft in late April.<\/p>\n DStv then went quiet regarding new channel offerings for some time, with its next announcement coming in November.<\/p>\n Marc Jury, MultiChoice SA CEO<\/p><\/div>\n The pay-TV broadcaster launched a new kids channel<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 Play Room \u2014 on 6 November 2023. It airs local South African education and entertainment programming and popular international content.<\/p>\n It also broadcasts popular animated shows dubbed into isiZulu.<\/p>\n “A whole new world of learning and fun opens up for local kids on 6 November when the new children’s channel Play Room launches on DStv Channel 300,” DStv said.<\/p>\n The channel focused on broadcasting educational programming aimed at four- to six-year-olds in the mornings.<\/p>\n In contrast, afternoon programming will feature live action and a local live show with “high entertainment value for tweens”.<\/p>\n Play Room is available on DStv’s Access package and higher subscriptions, meaning customers must pay at least R99 for the streaming-only plan and R129 monthly for the decoder package to watch it.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Marc-Jury-Showmax-CEO.jpg\")
