Afrihost has relaunched its AirMobile<\/a><\/strong> mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) service with a new app and website, as well as support for direct sign-ups and eSIMs for prepaid customers.<\/p>\n

The Internet service provider’s prepaid-focused MVNO runs on MTN’s network and has been available since 2016.<\/p>\n

Previously, it would require that customers have an existing MTN number to take up its prepaid products, with direct AirMobile sign-ups only available for month-to-month packages.<\/p>\n

The mobile app and new AirMobile website will now allow users to sign up directly for an AirMobile prepaid SIM without interacting with MTN.<\/p>\n

Customers can get a new number or port their existing one to AirMobile from within the app or on the new website’s Afrihost ClientZone.<\/p>\n

The eSIM process is handled entirely online and takes less than 10 minutes before activation.<\/p>\n

In this instance, RICA is handled electronically, with users submitting photos of their ID, a selfie, and proof of address directly within the app or on the web.<\/p>\n

This must happen before midnight on the day of the eSIM activation.<\/p>\n

With the addition of eSIM support, Afrihost has become the fourth MVNO that allows fully online purchases of prepaid eSIMs, following uConnect, Me&you Mobile, and Melon Mobile.<\/p>\n

Those who don’t have a device with eSIM support can also order a physical SIM card.<\/p>\n

The SIM can then be delivered to the user’s preferred address or collected from Afrihost’s headquarters in Rivonia, Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

Every new AirMobile SIM comes with 10GB free mobile data and R100 airtime.<\/p>\n

The MVNO offers some of the best prices on mobile data bundles of any cellular service provider in South Africa, including:<\/p>\n

  • 100MB<\/strong> \u2014 R10<\/li>\n
  • 1GB<\/strong> \u2014 R30<\/li>\n
  • 5GB<\/strong> \u2014 R100<\/li>\n
  • 10GB<\/strong> \u2014 R150<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    All data bundles are valid until the end of the following month on which they are bought.<\/p>\n

    AirMobile subscribers can share non-promotional data and airtime via its AirShare feature.<\/p>\n

    Transfers are done through the AirMobile app or Afrihost ClientZone.<\/p>\n

    The free data and airtime allocated as part of the launch promotion can’t be transferred.<\/p>\n

    Each AirMobile number also comes with a unique promo code that can be used to earn rewards like free mobile data.<\/p>\n

    Every person who signs up using an existing user’s code will get 5GB of bonus mobile data, while the referrer will also get 5GB. This is activated once the new user verifies their payment details.<\/p>\n

    AirMobile also supports an Auto Top-Up feature to avoid costly out-of-bundle airtime consumption.<\/p>\n

    This feature allows users to set how much data\/airtime they require with an automatic top-up and when it should take effect.<\/p>\n

    Afrihost said that “unlike its competitors”, it allows users to set a monthly limit on this feature.<\/p>\n

    “If you prefer to top up manually, you can easily turn off the Auto Top Up feature at any time,” Afrihost stated.<\/p>\n

    Airtime bundles are available with the following allocations:<\/p>\n

    • R50<\/li>\n
    • R100<\/li>\n
    • R250<\/li>\n
    • R500<\/li>\n
    • R1,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      All airtime lasts a minimum of 12 months from the date of purchase.<\/p>\n
