DStv increased the pricing of its decoder hardware, with the single-view HD decoder now R999 with installation and the Explora PVR and Explora Ultra PVR’s price rising to R1,999 and R2,999, respectively.<\/p>\n

Pricing for the Explora PVR and Explora Ultra PVR decoders does not include installation. These represent increases of R100 for the lower-specced decoder and R300 for the higher-tier decoders.<\/p>\n

Asked about the new prices, MultiChoice confirmed that they took effect\u00a0on 1 February 2024.<\/p>\n

MultiChoice announced price increases across its pay-TV portfolio on 19 February 2024. The changes will kick in on 1 April.<\/p>\n

Prices will increase between 3.1% and 7.8%, with the DStv Access getting the largest relative increase. However, MultiChoice South Africa CEO Marc Jury said the package will get a sports boost.<\/p>\n

“We have renewed La Liga, and we are in the process of finalising a long-term extension with them,” he said.<\/p>\n

Jury said this would expand DStv Access’ sports offerings to include ESPN, La Liga, SuperSport Variety 4, and SuperSport Blitz.<\/p>\n

The DStv Compact Plus will also see a significant relative increase of 6.9%. Jury said these subscribers will soon get a revamped set of channels and access to popular original content from Showma.<\/p>\n

The CEO also said DStv would focus on its price-guaranteed contract packages, which lets customers who know they will be subscribed for the next two years take up 24-month contracts.<\/p>\n

The benefit of this is that their subscription fees will not be adjusted for the contract’s duration.<\/p>\n

While subscribers can upgrade their contracts at any point during the two years, they can’t downgrade without cancelling and paying the associated fees.<\/p>\n
