8ta<\/a> is planning to offer a commercial\u00a0voice over IP (VoIP)<\/a> service to its subscribers, but the full details about the service will only be revealed at launch.<\/p>\n

\u201c8ta does plan to offer an 8ta VoIP service, however the details of the offering and launch date cannot be disclosed,\u201d said Amith Maharaj<\/a>, Senior Managing Executive: Telkom<\/a> Mobile.<\/p>\n

Maharaj added that 8ta currently allows its subscribers to use any VoIP applications on its network. \u201cWe offer the same quality of service to VoIP as any other data traffic,\u201d said Maharaj.<\/p>\n

Telkom CFO and Telkom Mobile acting head Jacques Schindehutte<\/a> recently said that it is not a good strategy to try to compete head-on against Vodacom<\/a> and MTN<\/a> in the mobile voice market, and that 8ta\u2019s future lies in data.<\/p>\n

Telkom CEO Nombulelo Moholi<\/a> said that 8ta has launched highly competitive and leading data offerings, and that these data offerings will include disruptive voice packages in future.<\/p>\n

Mobile VoIP (aka voice over data) services are also planned by John Holdsworth\u2019s<\/a> AppChat<\/a> and MWEB<\/a>.<\/p>\n
