{"id":53157,"date":"2012-06-21T09:23:26","date_gmt":"2012-06-21T07:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=53157"},"modified":"2012-06-21T09:26:45","modified_gmt":"2012-06-21T07:26:45","slug":"nigerian-scammers-are-efficient-at-finding-targets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/53157-nigerian-scammers-are-efficient-at-finding-targets.html","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian scammers are efficient at finding targets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/strong>A report by <a title=\"Microsoft\" href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php\/211580-Microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a> researcher, Cormac Herley on Nigerian scammers has concluded that they are actually very efficient at finding likely targets.<\/p>\n<p>The report titled \u201cWhy do Nigerian scammers say they are from Nigeria?\u201d, suggests that the scams work because most people quickly brush them off as scams, while those who don\u2019t are more likely to fall for outlandish tales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn email with tales of fabulous amounts of money and West African corruption will strike all but the most gullible as bizarre,\u201d wrote Herley.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be recognized and ignored by anyone who has been using the Internet long enough to have seen it several times.
