puts Dead Space on ice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Electronic Arts Inc.\u00a0put the\u00a0<em>Dead Space\u00a0<\/em>series on ice for the second time, despite the release of a critically acclaimed remake last year that appeared to give new life to the troubled video game franchise.<\/p>\n<p>Although news that the sci-fi horror series was shelved came out this week, EA made the decision as early as last spring, according to people familiar\u00a0with the project.<\/p>\n<p>Hopes for a new\u00a0<em>Dead Space<\/em> game at EA were derailed after sales of the remake missed\u00a0the company\u2019s\u00a0expectations, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren\u2019t\u00a0authorised to speak publicly.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing the\u00a0<em>Dead Space<\/em>\u00a0remake, which was released in January 2023, a small team at the Electronic Arts subsidiary Motive spent a few months conceiving ideas for a new entry in the series, said the people.<\/p>\n<p>But those plans were never given a green light and fizzled before they could get very far.<\/p>\n<p>Since last summer, that team has instead been exploring other ideas while the bulk of the developers who worked on\u00a0<em>Dead Space\u00a0<\/em>moved to\u00a0different projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9n-tCxMxmQA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Giant Bomb YouTube channel<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0suggested Wednesday that Motive\u00a0had been developing a remake of\u00a0<em>Dead Space 2 <\/em>that was shelved.<\/p>\n<p>Electronic Arts, based in Redwood City, California,\u00a0denied the report of that work, telling\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/ea-shoots-down-dead-space-2-remake-rumors-no-validity-to-this-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the gaming site IGN<\/a><\/strong>, \u201cWe don&#8217;t normally comment on rumours but there is no validity to this story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An EA spokesperson declined to comment further to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>Introduced in 2008, the series was well received by fans but never became the blockbuster that management envisioned.<\/p>\n<p>Following the disappointing 2013 release of\u00a0<em>Dead Space 3<\/em>, the company shelved the series for a decade before bringing it back last year with a high-end remake of the first entry\u00a0that received\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metacritic.com\/game\/dead-space\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">top review scores<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Motive said this week it is\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ea.com\/ea-studios\/motive\/news\/motive-joins-battlefield-update-from-patrick-klaus-gm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">working on two games<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 a previously announced\u00a0<em>Iron Man\u00a0<\/em>project and a new\u00a0<em>Battlefield<\/em>, which left the fate of the sci-fi horror series in
