Sony’s revised compact PlayStation 5 gaming console, informally dubbed the PS5 Slim, is now available to buy in South Africa.<\/p>\n
Similar to the original PS5, the Slim has two variants \u2014 a regular disc drive-fitted model and a digital-only model.<\/p>\n
The consoles share most of the same internal hardware as their predecessors, so performance should be similar.<\/p>\n
The main changes are in design, with both consoles featuring four removable side panels instead of the two on the original versions.<\/p>\n
They are also 30% smaller, while the standard PS5 Slim weighs 18% less than the original version and the digital edition 24% less than the original disc-less model.<\/p>\n
The digital-only model also supports the addition of a disc drive after purchase.<\/p>\n
One downside to the new consoles is that they no longer come with a stand for adjusting between horizontal and vertical orientation.<\/p>\n
Instead, the included stand will only support horizontal placement, while the vertical stand must be bought separately.<\/p>\n
The prices of the standalone Slim consoles match the recommended retail pricing of the original PS5.<\/p>\n
The digital-only version with one controller is priced at R11,999, while the disc drive-fitted Slim model will set you back R13,999.<\/p>\n
There are also various PS5 Slim bundles that add additional accessories at a discount compared to buying them separately.<\/p>\n
