Multichoice launched its long-awaited high definition PVR (HD PVR) in July. The decoder comes in at a competitive price of R2499 and promises increased functionality over its predecessor.<\/p>\n
Apart from High Definition TV support the new HD PVR sports a 250GB hard drive which allows up to 60 hours of HD – or 120 hours of standard definition – content to be stored. <\/p>\n
Bugs frustrate users<\/strong><\/p>\n Unfortunately a fairly long list of bugs associated with the new device has frustrated users and limited the functionality of the HD PVR. “In terms of functionality, this unit is a complete bust,” said one frustrated DSTV HD PVR user.<\/p>\n A MyBroadband group of users started a mini-site to list all the bugs with the hopes of assisting Multichoice to resolve these problems: http:\/\/hd-pvr.pbwiki.com\/<\/a> <\/p>\n According to this website there are 49 known bugs, of which only a few have been resolved. Users also listed five features which they feel are missing. These features include the absence of video on demand, no search functionality and no series recording.<\/p>\n Multichoice plans to exterminate bugs<\/strong><\/p>\n Good news for DSTV HD PVR subscribers is that MultiChoice is well aware of these bugs and has documented plans to ensure that these problems are resolved soon.<\/p>\n MyBroadband was provided with a detailed spreadsheet of the known bugs listed on the user generated WiKi and the action that is being planned to resolve each issues. The next software release should resolve most of the problems which were listed by consumers.<\/p>\n Multichoice further pointed out that some of the ‘bugs’ listed are actually not bugs but rather a system limitation. Good news is that Multichoice has taken note and will endeavor to include the additional functionality to their HD PVR service in future.<\/p>\n
