{"id":536607,"date":"2024-05-13T15:31:35","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T13:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=536607"},"modified":"2024-05-13T16:09:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T14:09:48","slug":"big-telkom-network-outage-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cellular\/536607-big-telkom-network-outage-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Big Telkom network outage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Telkom&#8217;s services have been restored following a temporary outage that impacted its network nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>Customers reported having no signal on the network, preventing them from accessing the Internet, calling, and sending SMSes.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom confirmed that it suffered a temporary network outage affecting its services countrywide.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our team is actively addressing the issue to ensure it is resolved as a matter of urgency. The network is now restored but some parts of the network are still synchronicing and we expect the entire network to be fully online in an hour,&#8221; it told MyBroadband.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our technical teams are investigating the cause of the outage. We will continue to monitor the network. We regret the inconvenience this has caused.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As a token to its customers, Telkom will credit users on its network with 1GB of data valid for two days.<\/p>\n<p>Reports of issues at Telkom started on <a href=\"https:\/\/downdetector.co.za\/status\/telkom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Downdetector<\/strong><\/a> at around 14:00 on Monday, 13 May 2024, with customers reporting data and phone issues.<\/p>\n<p>23% of reports for Telkom on Downdetector described the issue as a &#8220;total blackout&#8221; of the mobile network.<\/p>\n<p>Telkom customers have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustration over the outage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our whole company is on [the] Telkom network. Yerrr it is a mess. Calls are not going through,&#8221; one user <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/musaimmortal\/status\/1790011110864670751\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have been without reception for over two hours. Are there any issues on your end at the moment? And how long will we be down?&#8221; another <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JWNaude\/status\/1790009588894384484\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;@TelkomZA has a national outage but their Twitter account has internet access to tweet.
