{"id":540693,"date":"2024-06-12T09:03:35","date_gmt":"2024-06-12T07:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=540693"},"modified":"2024-06-12T09:10:47","modified_gmt":"2024-06-12T07:10:47","slug":"spar2us-online-volume-surges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/business\/540693-spar2us-online-volume-surges.html","title":{"rendered":"Spar2U&#8217;s online volume surges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spar&#8217;s latest half-year financial results show a major spike in its Spar2U delivery service sales volumes and a positive financial position.<\/p>\n<p>The supermarket chain&#8217;s on-demand delivery service thrived over the six months ending March 2024.<\/p>\n<p>It saw an increase of 463% in online sales volumes from the six months before.<\/p>\n<p>Spar2U sites also increased to 420 from 356 at the end of September 2023. These refer to Spar shops that support the service.<\/p>\n<p>More generally, Spar Southern Africa reported a 4.8% increase in wholesale turnover in its latest interim results.<\/p>\n<p>This figure accounts for its supermarket operations, Spar2U delivery service, Build It, Spar brand pharmacy, Tops at Spar, and house brand.<\/p>\n<p>Its wholesale grocery business increased sales by 4%, and Tops at Spar also saw an increase in turnover by 12.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Spar told MyBroadband that the number of supported stores had\u00a0reached 373 <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/it-services\/517941-big-growth-for-spars-rival-to-checkers-sixty60.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">by November 2023<\/a>, and 170 more were planned for the following months.<\/p>\n<p>Spar also said then that its on-demand delivery service saw month-on-month revenue and volumes increase by an average of 27% during 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Other developments at the delivery service include reducing its dependence on fuel-powered delivery vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Spar&#8217;s on-demand delivery service uses electrified vehicles that combine grid and solar power.<\/p>\n<p>R6.2 million was spent on 65 of these vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Blake Raubenheimer, an omnichannel executive at Spar Group, <a href=\"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/it-services\/527739-spar2u-beats-checkers-sixty60-and-pick-n-pay-in-grocery-delivery-price-showdown.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told MyBroadband<\/a> that the company is considering multiple electric vehicle types \u2014 from scooters to trucks \u2014 to evaluate their viability for use across several services Spar2U will offer in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Raubenheimer said the electric vehicles are charged using a 50:50 grid and solar power combination.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By adopting a dual charging approach, with 50% solar and 50% Eskom charging, an estimated annual offset of approximately 3.27 tons of carbon emissions per bike will be achieved,&#8221; Raubenheimer said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is to achieve a 50% Spar2U green fleet by 2025, not only enhancing our nationwide availability but also delivering a greater positive environmental impact.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spar&#8217;s on-demand delivery service saw a major spike in online volumes in the first six months of its financial year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":341175,"featured_media":517955,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[19],"tags":[92218,71290,35,71292,24180,76720,76722],"class_list":["post-540693","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business","tag-blake-raubenheimer","tag-checkers-sixty60","tag-headline","tag-pick-n-pay-asap","tag-spar","tag-spar2u","tag-woolies-dash"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/540693"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/341175"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=540693"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/540693\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":540709,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/540693\/revisions\/540709"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/517955"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=540693"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=540693"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=540693"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
