<\/strong>Amazon appear to be entering new markets with their reported acquisition of UpNext.<\/p>\n

The start-up UpNext, models maps into 3D, and is said to have been bought by Amazon for approximately $2.5 million.<\/p>\n

UpNext uses Android-native maps, and although the service only currently caters for US cities, the reported deal should allow them to branch out into other territories.<\/p>\n

With Amazon having made this purchase speculation is that they may be planning to launch a more robust Kindle that would allow for a third-party Android app, like the maps from UpNext, to be downloaded.<\/p>\n

This move also points to the possibility of an Amazon smartphone in the near future.<\/p>\n
