Uncapped ADSL has become the norm in South Africa, with the majority of new sales at MWEB being for uncapped ADSL products.<\/p>\n

MWEB ISP CEO Derek Hershaw told MyBroadband that uncapped ADSL has become the norm, highlighting that just under 90% of their new sales are for uncapped ADSL services.<\/p>\n

There is also a continued migration from capped to uncapped services. “We move about 2,000 of our customers from capped to uncapped every month,” said Hershaw.<\/p>\n

MWEB stunned the local broadband market when it launched the country’s first affordable uncapped ADSL services in March 2010. Since then uncapped ADSL has become commonplace, and even Telkom has launched affordable uncapped products.<\/p>\n

In 2012, a few industry players tried to downplay the relevance of uncapped ADSL services, with some even predicting that uncapped broadband services were not sustainable. To date they have been proven wrong.<\/p>\n

All the prominent South African ISPs, including MWEB, Afrihost, Web Africa, and Vox Telecom, have indicated that uncapped products are popular and that their clients see value in these products.<\/p>\n
