{"id":546766,"date":"2005-09-13T03:04:13","date_gmt":"2005-09-13T03:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/wordpress\/technology\/546766-uunet-dogged-by-peering-link-problems.html"},"modified":"2005-09-13T03:04:13","modified_gmt":"2005-09-13T03:04:13","slug":"uunet-dogged-by-peering-link-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/546766-uunet-dogged-by-peering-link-problems.html","title":{"rendered":"UUNet dogged by peering link problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">UUNet have confirmed that the peering link between themselves and SAIX (Telkom\u2019s Internet branch) was in the process of being upgraded on Friday.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The fault however was on the SAIX side and not from UUNet\u2019s network.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">\u201cIt was confirmed that there was no fault on the UUNet network, Telkom reported it to be a fault on an ATM port in the Telkom network,\u201d stated UUNet.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The fault occurred because the SAIX network was not drawing the level of content from the UUNet network which it usually does. This is an indication of a bottleneck or fault external to the UUNet network.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The agreement between SAIX and UUNet is that should the ATM based infrastructure reach an excess of 75% capacity an automatic upgrade of the infrastructure is put in place. Upgrades are generally completed within 72 hours.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Currently, there is \u201cample capacity\u201d between the networks according to UUNet. Friday\u2019s problems were apparently unrelated to capacity problems.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">UUNet states that they, \u201cwill continue to monitor the position carefully to ensure that the stability of the interconnection persists.\u201d<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Unfortunately users again experienced problems yesterday. Users on the SAIX network\u00a0were still having trouble with accessing content on the UUNet network. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Many websites, including UUNet\u2019s own site,\u00a0were also\u00a0affected by these problems.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">UUNet has informed MyADSL that the problem is hardware based, and that they have already updated and configured new hardware on their side.
