{"id":546876,"date":"2005-09-26T15:13:48","date_gmt":"2005-09-26T15:13:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/wordpress\/technology\/546876-a-forceful-icasa-needed.html"},"modified":"2005-09-26T15:13:48","modified_gmt":"2005-09-26T15:13:48","slug":"a-forceful-icasa-needed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/546876-a-forceful-icasa-needed.html","title":{"rendered":"A &#8216;forceful&#8217; ICASA needed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">The Independent Communication Authority of SA (ICASA) must assume a central role in monitoring effective implementation of strategies that enable competition and lower the price of telecommunications. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">This is one of the key issues included in the official report back on the July telecoms pricing colloquium, which will come under discussion in the next round of telecoms pricing talks. The second colloquium is scheduled for 11 and 12 October. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The report notes that while the Telecommunications Act clearly articulates the extent and potential effectiveness of the powers vested in ICASA, there is a disturbing degree of uncertainty among delegates as to the role of the organisation. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The report also outlines the underlying issues that affect the price of telecoms.
