{"id":546990,"date":"2005-10-10T18:38:15","date_gmt":"2005-10-10T18:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/wordpress\/technology\/546990-doc-colloquium-on-telecoms-costs-kicks-off-today.html"},"modified":"2005-10-10T18:38:15","modified_gmt":"2005-10-10T18:38:15","slug":"doc-colloquium-on-telecoms-costs-kicks-off-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/546990-doc-colloquium-on-telecoms-costs-kicks-off-today.html","title":{"rendered":"DoC Colloquium on Telecoms Costs kicks off today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">The focus on reducing telecommunication costs is the same but the panel of speakers is slightly different.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Dr. Ivy Matsepe-Cassaburri, Minister of Communications, is down as the opening speaker.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Matsepe-Cassaburri failed to open the proceedings of the first colloquium held in June this year but according to her office the Minister will be at the proceedings and will usher in the event at 9:15am sharp.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The keynote address is by Dr. Tim Kelly from the International Telecommunication Union and he will discuss global developments in telecommunications.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Mr. Paris Mashile from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) will be representing the regulator and hopefully cast some light on the role that ICASA will play in reducing prices.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The deputy Minister of Communications, Mr. Radharkrishna Padayachie, will also make a presentation and perhaps throw a bit of light on the progress made by the DoC regarding price reduction in the telecommunications arena since the last colloquium.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The rest of Tuesday and Wednesday will involve presentations by the colloquium working group and breakaway sessions.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The programme is tightly co-ordinated and looks to reveal a few interesting ideas on how the telecommunications sector in South Africa can move forward.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Whilst the way forward is murky it is becoming increasingly clear that the South African Department of Communications cannot afford to procrastinate for another year. <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">Aggressive and drastic changed in the telecommunication industry is required in South Africa if we are to even consider ourselves an attractive destination for foreign investors.<\/font> <\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=29092\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Discuss this article<\/a> <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\" \/><\/p>\n<p \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second Department of Communications colloquium on how to reduce the price of telecommunications in South Africa starts today at Gallagher Estate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_sma_x_autopost_status":"idle","_sma_x_autopost_error":"","_sma_x_post_id":"","_sma_facebook_post_id":"","_sma_instagram_post_id":"","_sma_threads_post_id":"","_sma_x_attempts":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-546990","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-technology"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/546990"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=546990"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/546990\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=546990"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=546990"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=546990"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
