Natalie Thyer, general manager of MWEB home, said: \u201cWe believe that MWEB Home\u2019s entry-level product for home users at only R145 is an incredible price!\u201d<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

She added that MWEB have received overwhelming positive feedback from industry and their own members.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

According to MWEB this package in not only about making money, they believe that through this package they are helping in part to bridge the digital divide by making broadband available to more South Africans.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Thyer said: \u201cOur R145 offering is about more than mere revenue. It\u2019s about building a sustainable Internet culture in South Africa.\u201d<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe therefore actively campaign for lower costs and an anti-competitive, deregulated industry to the benefit of all ISPs and consumers.\u201d<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

But once again consumers have had their say and from many of the responses on the MyADSL forum it appears that many users feel quite strongly about MWEB pricing structure.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

A common thread of thought was that MWEB is taking advantage of subscribers who do not know any better.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just MWEB taking advantage of the uneducated public,\u201d said one member.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

This comment was followed by a fairly similar but strongly worded opinion, \u201cI think MWEB have aimed this one at people who do not know a lot about ADSL and I think this is dishonest and devious!\u201d<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Another member stated, \u201cThis the very reason people have stayed away from the Internet etc because of high costs.\u201d<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

But the reactions are not all negative.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

Some people feel that MWEB in part doing a good thing by trying to move users from dial-up to broadband for the same price.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n

The predominant feeling is that MWEB are still asking too much for this package and whilst there is good to be seen in their move to try and get dial-up users onto broadband it is all far too expensive.<\/font>\n<\/p>\n
