Releasing a statement in the wake of its Friday afternoon board meeting after receiving its licence that morning, the SNO company promised that it would focus on \u201ccustomer service and affordability\u201d. It also said customers would \u201cno longer be limited in the bandwidth they can access.\u201d Its services will be rolled out to different customer segments over time as the SNO grows, it said. <\/font><\/p>\n

The SNO promises its management team will be recruited locally, supplemented with support from Indian shareholder Tata and subsidiary VSNL, as well as that of the other shareholders. \u201cThe goal is to recruit the best people in the local market and to establish the appropriate training programs to ensure transfer of knowledge and skills development locally.\u201d The majority of board members would be South Africans, and the chairman would be an independent person chosen from \u201ceminent\u201d South African candidates, the SNO said. <\/font><\/p>\n

Since signing its shareholders agreement in August, the SNO said it had been \u201cactively engaged\u201d in defining its approach to the South African market, which was encapsulated in its business plan: \u201cThe business plan is designed to build a solid foundation for the SNO, which will become one of South Africa\u2019s largest companies.\u201d <\/font><\/p>\n

The SNO said its network would be a next generation network, built with both convergence and fixed mobile possibilities for the near future.<\/font> <\/p>\n
