Their immediate plans involve rolling out an average of\u00a0two new iBurst base stations every week, focusing initially on their coverage in Gauteng, Cape Town and Durban.<\/font> <\/p>\n

WBS will also continue to focus on service provisioning in previously neglected areas where broadband availability is low. <\/font><\/p>\n

The rapid network roll-out is part of a recapitalisation of the wireless broadband provider following the acquisition of 40% of WBS by a South African consortium of investors led by Blue Label Investments.<\/font> <\/p>\n

According to Thami Mtshali, CEO of WBS, \u201cOur immediate priority is to boost coverage for our existing customers, and then to expand our network to new areas.\u201d<\/font> <\/p>\n

\u201ciBurst customers will be the first to experience the benefits of the recapitalisation thanks to investment in coverage and a focus on providing improved customer support,\u201d he said.<\/font> <\/p>\n

Alan Knott-Craig, who was appointmented as WBS\u2019s new Managing Director in the beginning of 2006, said that he is confident in the iBurst technology and believes that it has a long future ahead of it.<\/font> <\/p>\n

He pointed out that WBS would not invest in new infrastructure if the technology was believed to have a short shelve life.<\/font> <\/p>\n

He further said that the take-up of their iGo Lite product, which was launched recently, was good and that they have convinced that this product is of value to a certain market segment.<\/font> <\/p>\n

The wireless broadband arena is fiercely competitive with WBS, Sentech, Vodacom, MTN and CellC all competing for market share. <\/font><\/p>\n

While iBurst and MyWireless are the only products who can compete favourably on price with Telkom\u2019s ADSL when it comes to higher data usage, the launch of HSDPA by Vodacom and MTN might shake up things up a bit in the wireless environment.<\/font> <\/p>\n
