BizNet Xpress<\/i> is an alternative to the leased lines that most companies use today to establish wide-area networks and access the Internet or other data networks. Using a non-line-of-sight wireless technology, Sentech connects businesses to its backbone and provides committed information rate services across these links. It offers access speeds of between 96 Kbit\/s and 2 Mbit\/s nationally, with the "last mile" provided on the regulated 3,5 GHz band, over ranges of up to 20 km from the nearest base station. <\/font><\/p>\n

Sentech product development manager Georg Wenhold says BizNet Xpress<\/i> offers a number of advantages over leased lines. First, Sentech’s entry-level product is faster and cheaper than the lowest-cost Diginet product . Also, the BizNet Xpress<\/i> basket of products is on average 5%-15% cheaper than Telkom’s leased lines, he says. <\/font><\/p>\n

Some companies, Wenhold says, will use BizNet Xpress<\/i> in addition to their fixed-line infrastructure to guarantee connectivity should one of the networks go down. They then enjoy higher availability and can do load-balancing, where network traffic is shared across the two networks. <\/font><\/p>\n

Sentech’s focus initially for BizNet Xpress<\/i> is financial services and retail. Companies in those sectors often operate many branches that need to be connected to a central office. <\/font><\/p>\n

Sentech has erected 11 base stations for the network, with more planned. <\/font><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Coverage is provided in parts of Gauteng and in Durban, Cape Town and Nelspruit. <\/font><\/p>\n
