The City of Tshwane is not far behind having recently announced the successful launch of their first broadband village in Rooiwal.<\/font> <\/p>\n

Municipalities are fast becoming big players in the broadband arena having started off with projects to decreased internal costs they are now looking to providing their citizens with similar services.<\/font> <\/p>\n

The problem will always be international connectivity which Telkom control.<\/font> <\/p>\n

EASSy, where various stakeholders have invested in a cable which will supply connectivity to the East Coast of Africa, may be a potential solution to this dilemma.<\/font> <\/p>\n

Future trends in the South African broadband industry point to the fact that users are increasingly looking for ways to bypass Telkom in order to cut on costs.<\/font> <\/p>\n

Currently, the municipalities are doing a good job on last mile access and in them lies the dim hope that more South Africans will be able to connect to cyberspace in the near future.<\/font> <\/p>\n
