First among these is the serious shake-up that has taken place in the Windows division. After admitting to some problems in the division, Microsoft restructured it, but without anyone actually losing their jobs. Steven Sinofsky has been elevated to senior vice president of the Windows and Windows Live group.

More frightening is the leak published by Australian tech magazine Smarthouse on Friday: Apparently up to 60% of Vista needs to be recoded. Smarthouse has published an internal memo which originated with Kevin Johnson, co-president of the Windows division.

The main problem lies with the media center code, which will be an integral part of Vista.

In an attempt to solve this problem as speedily as possible, Microsoft has moved some of its programmers from the highly successful Xbox team over to the Vista development team, reported Smarthouse.

The memo, which is boring and tedious enough to be completely authentic, details the new direction that the Windows division will take.

With such a major change in the works, and the media center code in such an apparent unworkable state, it is no wonder the dates for Vista have been pushed back by two months.

Discuss this article

Last week Microsoft announced another delay in delivering Vista, and it seems that the company’s Windows division might be in serious trouble.

[17

post-548357","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-technology
