Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer announced at a press event in San Francisco, California today (16 July 2012) that the customer preview of the 2013 edition of Microsoft Office is available immediately.<\/p>\n

Billed simply as \u201cOffice 365\u201d, Microsoft announced in a press statement that the full line-up of offerings and pricing plans will be announced \u201cthis fall\u201d (Sept-Nov 2012).<\/p>\n

Ballmer said that the new edition of Office will be \u201cat its best\u201d on Windows 8, though it will run on other versions of Windows.<\/p>\n

The new Office will use a \u201ccloud first\u201d design, and include social aspects as well, with Ballmer making specific mention of Microsoft\u2019s acquisitions of Yammer and Skype.<\/p>\n

Ballmer said that meetings and note-taking in particular are still non-digital activities that the new Office seeks to address. \u201cBesides journalists, most people take notes on paper,\u201d Ballmer joked.<\/p>\n
