Neotel completed the roll out of its metro access layer (fibre to the kerb) in five key metros enabling businesses to connect to their service via fibre.

“Contrary to recent media reports fibre to the premise (FTTX) for enterprise customers is available today from Neotel. Why wait for another two years when you can have the service in a matter of days.” says Stefano Mattiello, Executive Head of Enterprise Group at Neotel.

“We completed the rollout of metro rings roughly 12 months ago and have also completed the rollout of our metro access layer in the major metros enabling the customers to link to our network, hence the term fibre to the kerb.”

Neotel is using this network to provide customers with multiplay services – voice, data and internet – over one high bandwidth network. Neotel has greatly benefited in being able to implement a next generation network (NGN) upfront which has a fibre backhaul.

“The availability of fibre to the kerb in the major metros, it means that any businesses in these areas can get connected to our services in a matter of days. The beauty of fibre to the kerb is that it enables us to take one cable into the building to connect all of the customer’s chosen services.”

The benefits to fibre include faster deployment, more bandwidth and a fully scalable service to meet their requirements.

According to Neotel their service is fully redundant with no single point of failure ensuring customers that ‘downtime’ is a thing of the past.

“It also means that our services are not limited to big organisations – smaller companies are moving over to our network because it is already available in their metros and therefore quick to deploy,” he adds.

He says that Neotel took a strategic decision to immediately implement the metro access layer which resembles a spiral.

“It runs with the existing streets and is laid in the kerb to provide access across an entire area rather than just connecting major hubs,” says Mattiello.

“Essentially what this means is that the infrastructure is already available and therefore we can connect customers in much faster turnaround times. It also means that our services are not limited to big organisations – smaller companies are moving to our network because it is already available in their metros,” he adds.

Mattiello believes that this approach is truly changing the dynamics of the industry.

“While many might feel that there is risk in taking this approach as all clients might not sign up with us, we feel that we would rather have the infrastructure in place to be ready for them when they do make the move,” says Mattiello.

“In addition to that, our approach eliminates any perceived exclusivity attached to having high quality telecommunications services and customer service – we’ve made sure any company, large or small, within the metro can connect to our network. Fibre to the kerb is available from Neotel immediately and it is simply a matter of time before we can offer the same type of service to the home” he concludes.

Neotel fibre discussion

[3

post-5500","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms
