{"id":551161,"date":"2006-12-21T00:37:48","date_gmt":"2006-12-21T00:37:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost:8888\/wordpress\/technology\/551161-openweb-launches-automatic-dynamic-dns-hostnames-for-adsl-customers.html"},"modified":"2006-12-21T00:37:48","modified_gmt":"2006-12-21T00:37:48","slug":"openweb-launches-automatic-dynamic-dns-hostnames-for-adsl-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/551161-openweb-launches-automatic-dynamic-dns-hostnames-for-adsl-customers.html","title":{"rendered":"OpenWeb launches automatic Dynamic DNS hostnames for ADSL customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font size=\"2\">This new service is currently being trialled, but will soon be available to all OpenWeb customers that have an &#8216;@openweb.co.za&#8217; ADSL username.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">OpenWeb founder, Keoma Wright, explains<\/span> :<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Being limited by Telkom, forcing IP address updates at least every 24 hours, we at OpenWeb have decided to create a cheap, yet efficient solution to combat the forced updates&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;OpenWeb clients get their own FREE subdomain that is made up of the first part of their username: e.g. betty@openweb.co.za\u00a0 will have the domain: betty.dns.openweb.co.za&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Customers will still experience the 24 hour disconnects enforced by Telkom, however, if a new IP address is assigned, the OpenWeb Static DNS network will automatically update the customers Static domain with the new IP address, without the customer having to do anything!\u00a0 Local Only account holders will also have access to OpenWeb&#8217;s Static DNS service, making it perfect for VPN connections between branches, or even homes.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;IP addresses will change as Telkom enforces this on their network, however, the customer&#8217;s sub domain will point to the new IP within 60 seconds of the IP changing.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>MyADSL asked Keoma Wright, how does this affect Concurrent Connections? &#8211; what happens if an OpenWeb customer has more than one concurrent ADSL connection, via one or more ADSL lines, which connection will OpenWeb use to update the associated IP address of the customer&#8217;s OpenWeb sub-domain?<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Generally it is not advised to run more than 1 x ADSL line on a connection you wish to utilize for the purposes of hosting a server, as OpenWeb&#8217;s Static DNS server will update to the latest connected connection. e.g. Line 1 connects at 16:00 ; Line 2 connects at 16:15 &#8211; Line 2&#8217;s IP will point the the clients Static DNS Subdomain.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Currently the only solution, available to all South African ADSL customers, that experience the all too common problem of stalled downloads and\/or uploads, following a forced Telkom RADIUS server disconnect, is to use download and upload application software with built-in resume functionality.
