In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday, Google revealed it invested approximately $3.9m in 23andMe, a company co-founded by Anne Wojcicki in 2006. <\/font><\/p>\n

Wojcicki and Brin married earlier this month in a private ceremony. <\/font><\/p>\n

Wojcicki’s company is focused on helping people "understand and browse their genome", Google chief executive Eric Schmidt said in the filing. <\/font><\/p>\n

"Google invested in 23andMe as its goal of developing new ways to help people make sense of their genetic information will help us further our mission of organising the world’s information in this new and important field," a Google spokesperson told AFP. <\/font><\/p>\n

Brin provided $2.6m in interim debt financing to 23andMe and that money was paid back under the terms of the investment disclosed on Tuesday, according to the filing. <\/font><\/p>\n

Listing as also investing in 23andMe were venture capital firms Mohr Davidow Ventures and New Enterprise Associates, along with biotech firm Genentech, whose chief executive is on the Google board of directors. <\/font><\/p>\n

23andMe and Google are both based in the Northern California city of Mountain View. <\/font><\/p>\n

The union of Brin, 33, and Wojcicki is a Silicon Valley love story. She is a daughter of a professor at Stanford University, where Brin and Larry Page were students when they started Google in their dormitory rooms. <\/font><\/p>\n

Her sister, Susan, rented the garage of her house in Menlo Park, California, to Brin and Page to use as offices for their nascent internet search company when it launched in 1998. <\/font><\/p>\n

Susan Wojcicki went on to be a vice president at Google. <\/font><\/p>\n
