The new Vodafone-branded low-cost cellphones: the V125 and V225, will be available from Vodacom to customers in South Africa from June 2007. <\/font><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Vodafone branded low-cost cellphones form part of Vodacom\u2019s initiatives to achieve its vision of democratising the telephone and telecommunications in general \u2013 a critical element which can significantly contribute to an information society and the economic emancipation of Africa,\u201d says Shameel Joosub, Managing Director, Vodacom South Africa.<\/font><\/p>\n

The two ‘ultra low-cost’ cellphones are similar in functionality and will be offered to Prepaid customers. <\/font><\/p>\n

The V125 model<\/a>, which has a black and white screen, and will retail at R229 (including VAT and a Super 6 starter pack which usually retails for R 149-00).\u00a0 The V225 model <\/a>has a 65 000 colour TFT screen, and will retail at a cost of R369 (also including VAT and a Super 6 starter pack). <\/font><\/p>\n

According to official specifications both the V125 and the V225 have standby times of up to 120 \u2013 150 hours and talk duration times of up to 2 \u2013 4 hours.\u00a0 The V 125 weighs 63.9 g while the V 225 weighs in at 62.1 g.\u00a0 The phones do not have high end functionality like Bluetooth, camera or video support.<\/font><\/p>\n

Both cellphones will be available from major Vodacom approved retailers including Vodashops, 4U Stores and all participating outlets.<\/font><\/p>\n
