{"id":553074,"date":"2024-07-31T10:17:30","date_gmt":"2024-07-31T08:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=553074"},"modified":"2024-07-31T10:17:36","modified_gmt":"2024-07-31T08:17:36","slug":"chatgpt-voice-assistant-starts-rolling-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/ai\/553074-chatgpt-voice-assistant-starts-rolling-out.html","title":{"rendered":"ChatGPT voice assistant starts rolling out"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>OpenAI is rolling<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>out a much-anticipated voice assistant for ChatGPT\u00a0to a limited number of users\u00a0after previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-06-25\/openai-delays-launch-of-voice-assistant-to-address-safety-issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delaying the release<\/a>\u00a0to work through potential safety issues.\u00a0<br><br>The artificial intelligence startup said\u00a0it would make the voice feature available<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>to a small group of paid ChatGPT Plus customers starting on Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The product<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>will offer four preset voices, but won\u2019t\u00a0be able to impersonate<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>how other people speak, according to the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OpenAI also said it has added new filters to\u00a0\u00a0ensure the software can spot and\u00a0refuse some requests to\u00a0generate music or other forms of copyrighted audio.<br><br>The voice option was a centerpiece of\u00a0OpenAI\u2019s product launch event in May for GPT-4o, an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-05-13\/openai-launches-faster-and-cheaper-ai-model-with-gpt-4o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">updated version of its GPT-4 model<\/a>\u00a0that is better at handling text, audio and images in real time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The startup had introduced a more limited option for ChatGPT to talk back to users last year, but the new feature promised\u00a0to be faster and pair with powerful image-recognition capabilities to turn the chatbot into a far more useful and dynamic conversational partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OpenAI previously<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>said that it had intended to roll out the voice assistant to a small group of paid ChatGPT Plus subscribers in late June, but decided it needed another month to \u201creach our bar to launch.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company said\u00a0it was working on the\u00a0software\u2019s ability to spot and refuse to respond to certain types of content, and ensure\u00a0it could\u00a0effectively process requests from millions of users.\u00a0<br><br>\u201cBy launching gradually, we can closely monitor usage and continuously improve the model&#8217;s capabilities and safety based on real-world feedback,\u201d the company said in a statement Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the statement, OpenAI reiterated its plan to roll out the voice feature to all of its paid ChatGPT Plus subscribers in the fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company also said\u00a0it is still\u00a0working\u00a0on video and screen-sharing features that were demonstrated during the\u00a0May event.
