{"id":554052,"date":"2024-08-06T16:28:47","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T14:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=554052"},"modified":"2024-08-06T16:30:23","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T14:30:23","slug":"tshwanes-big-it-shutdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/cloud-hosting\/554052-tshwanes-big-it-shutdown.html","title":{"rendered":"Tshwane&#8217;s big IT shutdown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The City of Tshwane will shut down the network and hosting equipment supporting its Internet-related services from 8 to 11 August 2024, taking offline its website, email, electricity vending, and Internet access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The metro says the downtime is necessary for its Internet service provider, the State Information Technology Agency (SITA), to upgrade the electrical infrastructure in its hosting data centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;During the upgrade process, electricity to the whole SITA data centre will be turned off,&#8221; it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This interruption will also affect the City&#8217;s own network and server equipment, which are situated inside the SITA hosting facility.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The municipality added that its equipment would be turned off in advance to protect it from potential harm, requiring it to be shut down over the long weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It noted that some services could be restored sooner, depending on SITA&#8217;s progress. The following Internet-related services will be unavailable during the downtime:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Internet access<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>External email delivery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>City of Tshwane public-hosted websites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Virtual private network access<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electricity vending<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All other Internet-dependent City of Tshwane services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>SITA&#8217;s work will include cutting power to the facility to install and commission new electrical distribution boards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;ICT Division management apologises for any inconvenience as a result of the downtime.
