A Vodacom spokesperson has said that their reduced UK roaming rates over the period of the 2012 Olympics are only possible because they are \u201canticipating a noticeable increase in UK roaming during this period\u201d.<\/p>\n
Two weeks ago Vodacom announced that customers travelling to the United Kingdom (UK) are set to enjoy savings of up to 100% on international roaming.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese incredible savings, which will be applicable to Vodacom Pre-paid, Contract and Top Up customers, will be available from 20 July to 16 September 2012,\u201d Vodacom said in a press statement.<\/p>\n
This promotion will include 60% savings for local calls in the UK. Customers will also save 76% on calls to South Africa, 45% on SMS messages and 71% on data roaming. During the promotional period, customers will also save 100% on calls received from any network since they will not be charged for receiving calls.<\/p>\n
Asked why these new roaming rates cannot be implemented permanently, Vodacom said that they are \u201canticipating a noticeable increase in UK roaming during this period. This enabled us to negotiate discounted rates that can be passed on our customers\u201d.<\/p>\n
Vodacom\u2019s UK roaming data rate during the Olympics is R5 per MB (R5,000 per GB). After 16 September the rate will revert to the usual R17.50 per MB (R17,500 per GB).<\/p>\n
