In preparation for the launch of Windows 8, Microsoft has explained the key improvements to the latest entry of its long-running operating system.<\/p>\n

Written by group program manager at Microsoft\u2019s graphics team, Rob Copeland, the blog post explains that Windows 8 “builds on the well-established foundations of DirectX graphics” in Windows 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Windows 7, we expanded the capabilities of DirectX to provide a common hardware-accelerated graphics platform for a broader range of applications. Whereas previously, DirectX mainly provided 3-D graphics, we added functionality for what we call \u2018mainstream\u2019 graphics\u201d, said Copeland on the official Microsoft blog.<\/p>\n

Copeland further explained that key focuses of Windows 8 include:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Internet Explorer 9 as a starting point;
\n\u2022 Text acceleration;
\n\u2022 Geometry rendering;
\n\u2022 Image rendering;
\n\u2022 Using Direct3D 11.1 as a common foundation.<\/p>\n
