The complaints involved a frustrating queuing system, payment problems, and that ticket sales started early at some outlets.

Computicket said previously that Linkin Park ticket sales would open at 09:00 on Thursday 26 July on the Computicket website, the call-centre, Computicket outlets at Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Shoprite, and House & Home stores. However, some people got early access to tickets.

“I went to buy my fiancé and myself Linkin Park tickets and I was the 15th person in the queue. At 9:05 I hear that the Golden Circle tickets have sold out and that the people in Durban and at Checkers were able to start getting tickets from 8:00 in the morning. This is absolutely unacceptable,” said one Linkin Park fan on HelloPeter.

There were also numerous complaints about Computicket’s system and queuing problems.

“I have been waiting online since 09:00 to get tickets for Linkin Park but received an error message after I have checked out and wanted to pay for my tickets,” complained another user.

Handling load

Computicket: Lady Gaga

The virtual queuing system, which is provided to Computicket by Queue-it, was also used for the Lady Gaga ticket sales to avoid high server load which may cause the Computicket website to crash.

However, some techies are critical towards the system arguing that the right infrastructure should be able to handle the load with ease.

“To map real-world queues down to making people wait for the chance to buy their tickets online (because the system can’t cope with the load) is, well, hilarious,” said JP Viljoen, a network engineer in his personal blog post.

Viljoen said that many companies globally are handling far larger loads than Computicket by simply implementing the correct infrastructure.

Computicket apologizes for early sales

Computicket apologized for making tickets available earlier than announced, saying that “in preparation for the system to open at 09:00am for tickets we had a slight error.
