Google has recently confirmed that it still has in its possession a portion of payload data collected by our Street View vehicles.<\/p>\n
In January 2011, Google South Africa confirmed that they have collected payload data from unencrypted wireless networks in South Africa.<\/p>\n
At the time Google said that they were no longer collecting Wi-Fi data, and that they \u201cwant to delete this data as soon as possible and will continue to work with the authorities to determine the best way forward\u201d.<\/p>\n
Last week news emerged that Google had not kept its promise to delete all the personal data, such as e-mails, that its Street View cars collected in Britain and other countries in 2010.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoogle has recently confirmed that it still has in its possession a small portion of\u2026data collected by our Street View vehicles in the UK,\u201d Peter Fleischer, Google\u2019s global privacy counsel said in a letter published by the ICO.<\/p>\n
\u201cGoogle apologizes for this error. Google would now like to delete the remaining data.\u201d a company spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
Google did not answer questions as to why the data was not deleted as promised, and when it now plans to delete the data.<\/p>\n
