{"id":5621,"date":"2008-10-17T09:12:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-17T07:12:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2008-10-17T09:12:00","modified_gmt":"2008-10-17T07:12:00","slug":"licensing-on-hold-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/telecoms\/5621-licensing-on-hold-again.html","title":{"rendered":"Licensing on hold, again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ICASA recently withdrew a notice regarding the license conversion process, effectively putting the process on halt again.<\/p>\n<p>In a Government Gazette statement the telecoms regulator said that it gives notice that &ldquo;the Notice published in Government Gazette No. 31399 on 5 September 2008 [where ICASA is ready to issue converted licenses to licensees] is hereby withdrawn.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>ICASA said it will issue another notice in respect to the license conversion process in due course.<\/p>\n<p>ICASA was planning to issue I-ECS and I-ECNS licenses to various Value Added Network Services (VANS) after a high court ruling that VANS were entitled to self provide, effectively giving them automatic rights to Individual ECNS (I-ECNS) licenses under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA).<\/p>\n<p>Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri has however appealed this ruling, saying that it will undermine her &lsquo;managed liberalization&rsquo; policies.&nbsp; This in turn has yet again put a halt on the already overdue license conversions and consequently stifling competition in the telecoms market.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/vb\/showthread.php?t=140692\"><strong>ICASA license conversion process<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ICASA has withdrawn its notice regarding the license conversion process<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5621","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-telecoms"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5621"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=5621"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/5621\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5621"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=5621"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=5621"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
