{"id":56517,"date":"2012-08-03T10:03:45","date_gmt":"2012-08-03T08:03:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=56517"},"modified":"2012-08-03T11:56:15","modified_gmt":"2012-08-03T09:56:15","slug":"cabinet-pushes-through-e-tolling-legislation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/technology\/56517-cabinet-pushes-through-e-tolling-legislation.html","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet pushes through e-tolling legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite the inter-ministerial committee &#8211; under the leadership of deputy-president Kgalema Motlanthe &#8211; meeting with stakeholders to discuss e-tolling and possible alternatives, cabinet has approved the Transport Laws and Related Matters Amendment Bill for submission to Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>According to cabinet, the bill had been necessitated by the development of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) as well as future plans for road infrastructure development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Apart from the physical infrastructure, the GFIP will result in the operation of a road network that involves the utilisation of \u2018intelligent\u2019 transport systems. An important component of the network is the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system.
