Worldcoin, a startup co-founded by OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman, announced a new name and introduced the latest version of its eyeball-scanning Orb at an event in San Francisco on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company will be called World, and will use the new Orb to provide identification services \u2014 a task that the company said will be increasingly critical as artificial intelligence-enabled deepfakes become more adept at mimicking people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHumanity now faces a new existential question: How will humans & AI coexist?\u201d the company said in a statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
World, which is led by co-founder and CEO\u00a0Alex Blania, uses the\u00a0Orb to\u00a0scan people\u2019s eyes in order to provide biometric identification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company said the latest model\u00a0will use Nvidia Corp.\u2019s Jetson chipset, and that it\u2019s rolling out the ability for people to get the machine delivered to their house for real-time identification needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The delivery will be like ordering a pizza,\u00a0Chief Device Officer Rich Heley said on stage Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ID service, called Deep Face,\u00a0will address the problem of AI deepfakes\u00a0and offer a \u201cpowerful new way to combat fraud,\u201d the company said in the statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
