{"id":567736,"date":"2024-10-31T07:55:03","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T05:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/?p=567736"},"modified":"2024-10-31T07:55:09","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T05:55:09","slug":"apple-macbook-pro-with-m4-chip-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mybroadband.co.za\/news\/hardware\/567736-apple-macbook-pro-with-m4-chip-unveiled.html","title":{"rendered":"Apple MacBook Pro with M4 chip unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Apple unveiled\u00a0an updated MacBook Pro lineup with new M4 chips, looking to entice shoppers with speedier processing and AI capabilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The laptops will run the M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max processors, part of a new generation of chips that Apple is rolling out to the entire Mac line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The devices will also get an anti-glare screen option, faster ports, an upgraded camera for videoconferencing, and more battery life on the largest model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The introduction is the latest in a flurry of Mac upgrades. Apple debuted\u00a0a new iMac\u00a0on Monday and followed with a\u00a0redesigned Mac mini\u00a0on Tuesday \u2014 both with the M4 processor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company also released Apple Intelligence, its new AI platform, earlier this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple began taking preorders on Wednesday for the new MacBook Pros, which are set to reach stores on November 8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The standard 14-inch model will start at the same $1,599 (R28,263) price as the prior generation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s up to 1.8 times faster than the M1 version from 2020, according to Apple.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The M4 Pro version is three times faster than the M1 Pro line from 2021, while the highest-end M4 Max option is 3.5 times speedier than the M1 Max, the company said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new chips also are more adept at handling artificial intelligence tasks, Apple said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The M4 Pro version starts at $1,999 (R35,333) for the 14-inch size and $2,499 (R44,171) for the 16-inch option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The M4 Max model, meanwhile, is available from $3,199 (R56,544) for the 14-inch model and $3,499 (R61,847) for the 16-inch version. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All the new laptops have the same design as the 2021 models, but the entry-level one is now available in black, a color previously limited to the high-end versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The base version of the MacBook Pro \u2014 aimed at students \u2014 will have a central processing unit with 10 cores, up from the prior eight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its graphics processing unit, or GPU, will have 10 cores \u2014 like the M3 model. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The M4 Pro edition will offer as many as 14 CPU and 20 GPU cores. That\u2019s an upgrade over the M3 Pro chip, which includes 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new M4 Max can be configured with up to 16 CPU cores and the same 40 GPU core limit as before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new nano-texture display option is available on all configurations for a $150 (R2,651) extra charge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The embedded camera has 12 megapixels, which matches the new iMacs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apple also said that the 16-inch version now boasts 24 hours of battery life, two hours more than before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time, the entry-level MacBook Pro starts with 16 gigabytes of memory, double the minimum 8 gigabytes that Apple has offered in recent years.
